Ray J's Thoughts:

Anna (played by Lindsay Lohan) is now in her late 30's, engaged to her British fiance' Eric (played by Manny Jacinto) and a single Mom to her daughter - Harper (played by Julia Butters). Anna and her Mom, Tess (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) have remained super close since the last time things got 'freaky'. Unfortunately, Harper is intensely feuding with her snobbish-soon to be stepsister, Lily (played by Sophia Hammons), which results in some extra freaky consequences after Anna, Tess, Harper and Lilly receive a psychic reading - leading to more body swapping mayhem - with extra bodies.

I personally really enjoyed this 'Freakuel' that has arrived over 20 years since its predecessor. Lindsay Lohan, and Jamie Lee Curtis slip back into their roles with ease - and Julia Butters + Sophia Hammons bring a refreshing dose of sugar & spice to this body swap tale that's been told one too many times.

I really appreciated that pretty much all of the characters from the first movie return - even if just for a moment or two. There's also many clever references to other Lindsay Lohan movies from the early 2000's - including "Mean Girls" and "The Parent Trap". Music is also still a prominent element here as well.

Sophia Hammons character, Lily, being involved in the body swap shenanigans does bring something new to the table, since Eric and Anna aren't married yet when the girls swap bodies - her character gets to step into the shoes of Jamie Lee Curtis's, Tess, who is now a therapist turned life coach - and their interactions are great, since Lily is struggling with the idea of her Dad getting remarried to a woman from a different country than the one she has lived in her entire life.

There's a fair share of beat for beat callbacks that repeat from the original, but I personally didn't mind that. I had a fun time with this one! It's extra freaky, extra sweet, and oh so nostalgic!

Although there's a few refreshing moments here and there, "Freakier Friday" doesn't stray too far from its familiar formula. This 'freakuel' is less edgy than it is heartfelt, but still fun enough for audiences to enjoy the sweetness & nostalgia that comes with. The cast does a fantastic job - with standouts being Jamie Lee Curtis, and Julia Butters.
